The Shimano K04S Metal are hard, sintered, brake pads that are suitable for Shimano racing bike disc brakes. With sintered brake pads, the compound consists of resin that is mixed with metal particles. This compound is therefore very hard and wear-resistant. These brake pads are also very resistant to the high temperatures that can occur, especially during long descents. The disadvantage is that these brake pads engage less quickly than organic or semi-metallic brake pads and make more noise when braking.
These brake pads are therefore very suitable if you cycle in very muddy conditions and have to brake a lot. These brake pads are also extremely suitable when you cycle in the high mountains with both a racing bike and a mountain bike. During long descents, these metallic brake pads do not 'fade' and retain their braking power. Fading creates an oily layer on the brake pad. This often happens when you cycle with organic brake pads. Metallic brake pads do not have this problem, which makes them the most suitable brake pad for long trips in the mountains!
Not suitable for all brake discs
These hard brake pads are not suitable for all brake discs. These brake pads can only be used on ground brake discs, because they consist of harder material. Pressed, soft brake discs are only suitable for soft, organic brake pads. These will wear out quickly due to harder brake pads.
